This true gem, made up of just a few rooms, each one different from the other, is an ancient aristocratic residence whose origins date back to the 14th century, and it is in fact the site where the master sculptor Donatello had his workshop. It is located in the historic heart of Florence, 30 metres away from the Brunelleschi Dome and in the midst of the shopping area, very close to all the main monuments and museums.

The residence has recently been renovated, and guests can enjoy all the modern comforts provided. The rooms are characterised by large spaces, high decorated ceilings, precious frescoes and fine furnishings. Each bathroom has exquisite marble fittings and features a bathtub. All rooms are air-conditioned.

This small boutique hotel is committed to offering guests a hospitality experience that mirrors the warmth and comfort of staying at a friend's home. Marchesi Filippo and Ginevra Niccolini are actively involved in the management of the Palazzo and together with their staff members, who are available every day from 8 am to 8:30 pm, will do their utmost to assist with any individual requirements. It is also possible to organise visits to monuments, museums, neighbouring cities and shopping centres, or reserve various services, such as a chauffeur, beautician, etc.

THE HISTORY OF PALAZZO NICCOLINI AL DUOMO

During the construction of the cathedral in Florence, between 1300 and 1400, all the dwellings located within its perimeter were demolished, except for those that were positioned on the corner of the new Piazza del Duomo. Among these were a number of buildings that occupied the area where the Palazzo was built. It would appear that some extremely famous artists, including the great Donatello himself, had their workshops in these buildings, and this is evidenced by the bust of the great master with the memorial plaque on the façade of the Palazzo on the Piazza del Duomo side. It was the prominent Naldini family, who had made their name as important merchants, bankers and valiant soldiers, who commissioned the construction of the residence. In 1532, Giovanni Naldini began to purchase houses in this area and initiated the first transformation of these buildings into a single complex, laying the first foundations for the future Palazzo. For indications of the definitive unified layout, however, it is necessary to move forward to the mid-17th century, when architect Pierfrancesco Silvani was tasked with designing the building's grand staircase, its magnificent windows and the entrance hall in at n° 2, Via dei Servi.

Other major alteration work was carried out between the years 1725 and 1732, at the behest of Ottaviano Naldini (1684-1755), who commissioned architect Pier Paolo Giovannozzi to give the Palazzo the final appearance that has been passed down to the present day. In the years 1763-1770, owner Domenico Andrea Naldini elected to carry out extensive renovation work to enhance the property, particularly with regards to its interior. Many of the rooms on the first and second floors were decorated during this period with frescoes that are still in perfect condition today. The artists called upon to execute these paintings were among the best known of their time: Gaspero Nannucci, Niccolò Pintucci, Tommaso Gherardini and Gennaro Landi. The landscapes and subjects depicted in these frescoes reflect the most classical tastes of the 18th century, featuring architecture, flowers, animals and ruins. In 1879, Cristina Naldini, the last of her lineage, married Marquis Eugenio Niccolini di Camugliano (1853-1939). Following this union, the Palazzo became the property of the Niccolini di Camugliano family, who have lived here for four generations. Today the Palazzo belongs to Filippo and Ginevra Niccolini di Camugliano.
