Peter's House in Vivo d'Orcia - Castiglione d'Orcia

Casa di Pietro preserves in its structure the charm of the old peasant houses.
Completely restored, it has maintained the characteristics of local rural houses.
The living room with the large and ancient stone fireplace, which can be accessed directly from the entrance door, still has the old dark beams. It is lit by the side window door that leads to the delightful garden designed by the talented English architect Jonathan Radford who has lived in the next house for more than ten years.
A large iron table that sits under a strawberry grape pergola is ideal for outdoor dining.
The kitchen with a dining table and a long counter is also on the ground floor.
Upstairs, the two bedrooms with their bathrooms respectively overlook the double on the pratone over the white road, the double also on the lawn on one side and the other on the courtyard garden.

History

"Vivo d'Orcia is not a place, it is a way of life ..."

The Castello di Vivo d'Orcia is located in the charming area Val d'Orcia in the south of Tuscany, at 2 hours from Firenze, 1 now from Siena, near cultural jewels like Pienza, Montalcino e Montepulciano, to name just a few.

The village Vivo D'Orcia is located at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level.

The particular combination of altitude and the Mediterranean climate create an unusual combination of flora and fauna.

Many wild animals such as deer, wild boar and foxes as well as the truffles in Monte Amiata they find their home.

Refuge of a Pope: the estate with the imposing castle and the Romanesque church dates back to the XI century. The humble hermitage was transformed into a sophisticated and well organized agricultural center, when the cardinal Marcello Cervini, then pope Marcello II, bought the estate in 1534.

The property is still owned by the family today.

The castle in January 2005 was published on "The World of Interiors".

Secular trees and chestnut trees cast their shade in the gardens of the houses, ideal for spending al fresco meals outdoors. Fresh fruit and tomatoes, spicy sausages, homemade pasta, polenta, wild mushrooms combined with truffles and, of course, local olive oils and fine wines and wines.
