The Cascine Pallavicini in Santena

The farms are part of the Sansalvà estate and began to be built in the first half of the 1800, after the marriage of Luigia Carlotta Pallavicini delle Frabose with Count Vittorio Amedeo Balbo Bertone di Sambuy, minister in Bavaria and plenipotentiary of SM Sarda at the imperial and Royal Court of Vienna. In the same years the whole estate is renewed; the park has already been redesigned in 1830 by the famous Prussian garden architect Xavier Kurten, curator of Racconigi for the Real Casa. It was the enterprising Luigia, widowed in 1846, to complete the work. The farms have always been used as dwellings for the families of the farmers who worked the fields in Sansalvà. The current restoration has been directed to maintain as much as possible, even with the necessary changes to improve the habitability and in particular the energy remains, the original appearance of the structures and to underline the ancient care and ability in the architectural construction, functional and elegant at the same time.
