Casina degli Specchi in Soriano nel Cimino

From a residence of the Chigi Albani family of 1720 born Casina degli Specchi, a location for events and holidays in which history, art and culture come together with comfort and attention to detail for unforgettable stays.

Casina degli Specchi rises to Soriano nel Cimino in the province of Viterbo, in the heart ofAlta Tuscia, one hour from Rome. It is located inside the hunting lodge of the Chigi Albani family dating back to the 1720. Inside, an entire floor is completely frescoed.

Casina degli Specchi is an asset of historical and cultural interest and protected by the Superintendence of Architectural and Landscape Heritage.

Since October 2016 has opened its doors to those who want discover the Tuscia staying in a place of Italian historical and cultural heritage but without giving up high level services.

Inside they are present 4 rooms, an large garden characterized by one panoramic terrace it's a saltwater pool. The rooms have all Wi-Fi, hairdryer, courtesy line with herbal products based on olive oil, memory foam mattresses and pillows. There breakfast it is served every morning and full of Organic products sweet and savory of the territory. During the summer season guests can have breakfast in the outdoor glass and iron gazebo while in the winter season in the internal veranda with fireplace. Guests also have a cafeteria service and a small wine shop with selection of wines and local gastronomic products.

History

La Casina of the mirrors it is located inside the hunting lodge of the Chigi Albani family. The structure, as it appears today, dates back to 1720 and presents a room with walls characterized by mirrors painted with cherubs and still lifes. The frescoes are by Pietro Paolo Cennini (1661 - 1739) who executed them on commission by Cardinal Annibale Albani. The Cennini also worked in Naples and Rome and was active at Palazzo Ruspoli, Villa Patrizi near Porta Pia, at the Quirinale, and in the Altieri, Lante and De Carolis palaces. The central rose window in the hall of mirrors is attributed to Carlo Maratta. Adjacent to the frescoed hall, a second large space presents door and window frames decorated with Delft tiles.

Casina degli Specchi was part of the monumental complex consisting of the Papacqua fountain and the adjacent palace built in the '500 by Cardinal Madruzzo on a design by Vignola, whose works were completed by Roberto Schiratti. At the beginning of the 700 when the Albans chose Soriano nel Cimino as summer residences, Cardinal Annibale restored Casina degli Specchi giving Pietro Paolo Cennini the task of the decorations. The Cennini for one of the rooms on the 1 floor used the Venetian technique of paintings on tables and mirrors. The second room, on the same floor, was decorated with Delft tiles. Cardinal Annibale Albani dedicated Casina degli Specchi to San Brunone, founder of the Carthusian Order.

In the 1921 Casina degli Specchi has been recognized as well of historical and cultural interest and, since then, it has been protected by the Superintendence for architectural and landscape heritage.

In the years' 60 Casina degli Specchi was bought by a professor of the Roman Superintendency. It is owned by the Petti Basili family from the 1981 and was inhabited by the 1985 itself at the 2015.

Since October 2016, Maria Luisa Petti together with her family has opened her doors to hospitality and hospitality. The project is characterized by an extreme attention to the history of the dwelling, to the peculiarities of the territory and to the offer of high level services for its guests.
