Isola del Garda (the Garda Island)
Isola Borghese Cavazza, known as Garda Island, is located on the brescian side of the Lake Garda, just off the coast of San Felice of the Benaco.
The island boasts lakefront terraces and Italian gardens that descend to the lake. All around the vegetation is lush and intact, rich in local plants, exotic plants, rare essences and unique flowers.
Today it owes its charm to the extraordinary neogothic Venetian style villa, designed by the architect Luigi Rovelli in the early XNUMXs; an imposing, harmonious construction, rich in surprising architectural details.
The history of Isola del Garda
It was abode of the Franciscan Friars from 1200 to 1797 to then pass into the hands of several families including the note Lechi family from Brescia (1817-1860). In 1870 it was bought by Duca Gaetano de Ferrari and his wife Maria Annenkoff.
The property was passed down to their daughter, Anna Maria De Ferrari, wife of the well-known prince of Sulmona, Scipione Borghese, who in turn left the property to their daughter, Livia Borghese, wife of Alessandro Cavazza
The youngest child of the latter, Camillo Cavazza, left the property to his seven children who are still taking care of the island to this day, managing in person the various family activities.
