The history of Palazzo Lupis
Built by the feudal family of the gods de Luna of Aragon the building dates back to the Fourteenth century.
It came into power of the Lupis family - coming from Giovinazzo in Puglia and originating from Marquises of Soragna - in the seventeenth century, for a series of intricate hereditary marriage alliances with the families of Luna, Amato, Infusini and Manso, all extinct in the Marquises Lupis.
Among the important artistic elements the Seventeenth-century monumental portal, work of the sculptural school of Serra San Bruno, the ancient library which collects more 7.000 volumes, mostly ancient or rare editions, the family archive with original documents dating back to the fifteenth century and some collections of art (busts and portraits).
Palazzo Lupis stands on the site of the pre-existing church of S. Antonio, of which there is an ancient crypt in the inner courtyard, which was also a "pit" of the baronial prison of the feudal lords.
In the courtyard also the busts of the Baron Captain Giovanni Lupis von Rammer, inventor of the Siluro and of the historic and numismatic Marquis Domenico Lupis Crisafi.
The large leaded windows show the coat of arms of the Lupis: "of blue, to the two wolves of counter-molding gold, with red tongues, which support a heart of the same".
The Palace is located in the square named after the Marquis Domenico Lupis Crisafi, in the district "Castello" of the Historical Center, and enjoys a remarkable environmental and panoramic position.
Belongs to the today foundation established by descendants, Don Marco and Donna Silvia Lupis Macedonio Palermo of Santa Margherita.
