Palazzo Salis

It has always been owned by the Salis family, who took care of the restoration over the centuries. Palazzo Salis in Tirano today represents an extraordinary artistic and cultural heritage. Located in the heart of the historical center of TiranoIt is only a ten minute walk from the Rhaetian Railway Station (RhB), which is under the aegis of UNESCO by the Bernina Red Train as a World Heritage Site.
Tirano with Palazzo Salis is also a landmark of the famous Via Valtellina, the main transit route for Valtellina wines through the Bernina Pass to Northern Europe, between the 16th and 19th centuries, confirming Tirano's extraordinary commercial and political importance between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries.


Built at the beginning of early seventeenth centuryStarting from 4 pre-existing noble buildings, it has given life to an imposing harmonious baroque style with sixteenth-century parts. The former home of the Salis branch Zizers, governors and mayor grisons in Valtellina, has been home to a few years ago museum with furnishings, paintings e historical documents of great relief and value, as well as surprising are the fresco and stucco decorations, which from almost 500 years embellish the austere home.

Visit the Palace and the Museum

The interior of the building can be visited starting from the main court, known as the “meridiana”, with a beautiful frescoed serliana, to continue climbing the imposing staircase of honor and crossing the large party hall. From here begins the circuit of dirty 10, all perfectly restored and decorated with frescoes and stuccos, which the visitor can admire guided by an audio guide or, in the case of groups, accompanied by a dedicated guide.

Important documents such as i Valtellina statutes of the first half of the 1500, partly manuscripts and partly very early prints, as well as the original diploma of Emperor Leopold I of Hapsburg, the drawings of the architect Giacomo Barozzi, called "il Vignola" and many others, will amaze visitors by transporting them back in time and in history of the Valtellina and of the noble Salis family.

The circuit also includes the ancient chapel dedicated to S.Carlo Borromeo (1612) and the small precious Italian garden.

Opening time:

From the 1 ° April to the 31 October: Monday to Saturday, from 10.00 to 16.00 (last entry time).
In the month of August also on Sunday, with the same time.
For groups over 10 people it is always advisable to book the tour with a guide (visit also at other times and on Sundays).
From November to the end of March: ad hoc openings by reservation only for groups of minimum 20 people.


Paid tour of the museum circuit with audioguide or, for groups, with dedicated guide (timetables see above).

Stays in historic rooms with bathrooms en suite and breakfast, starting from 140 euro per night.

Possibility to host daytime events and weddings, with spaces from 50 to 250 people, between more rustic rooms or more elegant frescoed rooms, according to preferences and budget, with the end of the event for 22.00 hours.

Prices for events

Prices starting from 1.500 euro (+ VAT) up to 4.500 euro (+ VAT), with catering service and other services apart.

Possibility to rent a location for photographic services or film shoots, starting from 450 euro (+ VAT), for a photographic service for an hour's wedding, and from 4.500 euro for film shoots (full-day rental).

An advance payment of 30% is required for booking, with the balance transfer at least 2 days before the event.
