The history of Tenuta La Marchesa
The beginning of its history dates back to 1750: in the house of the Marquis Sauli, an ancient and powerful family of Genoese bankers, prepares the marriage of a daughter, but the family home, built at the end of 1600, is not up to the aspirations of the new bride, or maybe the young husband has a lot more ambitions .
The decision is quick, you build a fantastic villa in the center of the property: for the name, no problem, it is "La Marchesa"In honor of the young wife. The chapel dedicated to guardian angels, larger than the previous one to ensure the health of the peasant soul, the limonaia to keep precious lemons during the winter ... everything seems bright and happy.
La French Revolution is coming, Napoleon perhaps winning the Marquess at Marengo, but also his glory is fleeting and the new Italy, after the congress of Vienna, begins its industrial history: with the silk boom of Novi "La Marchesa" becomes the country house of the most important family in the area.
Years pass and at the end of 800 i Ray D'Azeglio create a latifundium of 2000 hectares, the whole area of the Gavi.
We are in our day: with Giulini "La Marchesa" returns to its former glory with the same lands as the 1750 (76 hectares, one of the largest companies in the Gavi), the chapel and limonaia perfectly restored, the ancient house of the Sauli transformed into farmhouse with restaurant.
