Villa Hercolani in Bologna
At the end of the '400, John II Bentivoglio transformed the castle of "Belpoggio" into a summer residence thus creating a hybrid appearance between the castle and the palace. "Belpoggio" entered the Hercolani house as a dowry of Lucrezia Orsi, wife of Astorre Hercolani in the 1751 . The Prince of SRI Filippo, son of Astorre, provided for the substantial restoration work that included Angelo Venturoli and Carlo Bianconi, giving the house its current appearance. The care of the aspects of image and representation will lead to the creation of the first important example of "English" garden in Bologna and the new fashion of the garden-landscape. During the last war the villa suffered extensive damage, but thanks to a careful restoration, "Belpoggio", within its park of 12 hectares has returned to its former glory.
