Villa il Galero: a historic villa in Asolo
Villa Il Galero it is a historic residence of the seventeenth century.
The property is located a few steps from the town of Asolo and occupies with his vast park-garden a historically very important area, just below the Rocca.
The area was purchased in the 1646 by the Venetian Rubini nobles who wanted to build their residence here. To make it, the father of Cardinal Rubini had even attempted the purchase of the Fortress to make a stone quarry, but was stopped in his intent by the popular uprising. In the 1691 the villa was built by Cardinal Gian Battista Rubini, bishop of Vicenza and nephew of Pope Alexander VIII (born Pietro Ottoboni) Villa Il Galero. Thanks to the cardinal, the villa is known as "Il Galero", the well-known cardinal hat consisting of a wide-brimmed hat with a tassel flock which is reproduced in various decorative elements of the villa. The most illustrious personalities of the time found hospitality there.
In the 1700 the Rubies left Asolo and the villa later passed to the Braga, Ravagnin and Moretti families. In 1870 they ceded the property to Carlo Naya in the twentieth century at Fioccone and later to De Lord Rinaldi, the current owners.
The architecture of a Venetian villa
In the map of the land registry of the 1717 the complex is composed of four independent factory buildings: the villa in the center, two barchesse on the sides, theoratory to the east, in front of which an exedra space opens. Following the successive transformations, the complex has been enriched with other buildings and its morphology has been greatly articulated, adapting in a suggestive way the parts built in the natural context.
Today the architectural ensemble includes the Villa, isolated, with a low one-storey body leaning on the west side (the greenhouse), with a terrace above, behind which, on a higher level, there are three buildings, of which the in the center of the arcade, which constituted the ancient stables and stables. Further to the east, a three-story building, tripartite with a simple arched portal on the ground floor; in the open space between the villa and the eastern adjacencies, a pergola terrace with stone columns has been created. finally, the oratory, located at the lowest level, presents itself with the front and the entrance facing via S. Martino: it is the most ancient sacello known to Asolo dedicated to the Madonna; it was transformed by the Rubini family into an elegant oratory, enriched with works of art. Mrs. Ida, wife of Carlo Naya, who died in the 1882, restored and embellished the oratory, thanks to the sculptor Antonio Dal Zotto.
