A COLLECTION OF FANS
On the occasion of Aristopulci, inside the pavilion in the park called Orangerie, you can admire the exhibition of more than 100 fans, part of a private collection from various eras from the eighteenth century to today.
The classic fans painted with costumed characters, with rural views and portraits, but also with feathers, very popular in the early 900s, and some advertising that have connoted the twentieth century, an era in which this accessory was also considered an important advertising vehicle.
Among the most curious, a fan equipped with a small mirror that the nineteenth-century ladies used to be able to see what was happening behind them without turning their heads, thus avoiding revealing their curiosity (which was not "elegant" to do at the time).
In fact, the fan, from being an essential tool to satisfy the need to cool down, to chase away insects, to stoke the fire, has been transformed over the course of the various eras, taking on extraordinary shapes and decorations, from simple elements to imaginative decorations and real works of art. 'art.
Furthermore, between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries the fans were perfected and also used to seduce and manage amorous intrigues, hide smiles, conceal glances, conceal tears. They even became a communication tool for ladies and knights who invented a "non-verbal language" to communicate moods and requests according to the position of the fan, the opening or closing, and the way of waving it.
It is amusing, in the exhibition itinerary, to read the different "meaning" of the fan which, depending on the positioning, transmits a real message: move the fan with the left hand = "they observe us" ... slide a finger of the other hand on the edges of the fan = "I would like to talk to you" ... hold the fan with the right hand in front of the face = "follow me" ... fan the fan slowly = "I'm married" ...
"The fan today": in recent months it has been proposed to twenty artists, who in recent years have dedicated or exhibited their works in Pralormo, to participate in the initiative "Inspired by Pralormo ..." through the creation of fans inspired by the Castle, park, its flowers, forest animals, butterflies. A sitting room in the Orangerie is dedicated to the exhibition of their beautiful works.
