CASTELLARE DI SARRI, A MAGNIFICENT MEDIEVAL VILLAGE IN THE ROLLING HILLS OF SIENA

Castellare di Sarri is a small medieval hamlet located on the hilltops and owned by the Fatini del Grande family. It is composed of a Tower House, an independent Farmhouse and a third building. In the heart of the village stands the splendid 11th-century Church of San Francesco.

The property boasts ample interior spaces, a garden and a park, all entirely surrounded by imposing ancient walls and approximately 40 hectares of woods, olive groves and other cultivated areas, which are all part of the estate. The Tower House is inhabited by the owners during the summer, while the independent Farmhouse is available for rental.

The entire complex can also be utilised for events and cultural gatherings within the framework of clearly delineated programmes.

THE HISTORY OF CASTELLARE DI SARRI

Three buildings, atop a hill and flanking an 11th-century church, have been carefully restored, preserving the natural and structural charm of a small medieval village and the old walls that surround it.

Pilgrims who once travelled the ancient road have left palm prints on the 14th-century frescoes discovered during the restoration, thus marking their passage. The 16th-century altarpiece is the work of Saverio Billò, a pupil of Beccafumi, an artist known for painting frescoes in this area.

Of the original watchtowers overlooking the valleys facing the hill, one was converted into the 'Palazzo' country home during the 16th century. The other, of which the Romanesque gate and defensive walls have been preserved intact, along with a third building, have been transformed into two welcoming residences named 'Forilizio' and 'Guardiola', and have retained their original appearance. Within the area enclosed by the walls, a green area shaded by maritime pine trees completes the park and garden.
