CASTELLO DI MASSAZZA HOSTS EVENTS, EXHIBITIONS AND FAIRS IN THIS CAPTIVATING MEDIEVAL DEFENSIVE VILLAGE, PERCHED ON A SPUR BETWEEN MILAN AND TURIN

CASTELLO DI MASSAZZA IN MASSAZZA

Built around the year 1000, the Castle is located in the small village of Massazza between Milan and Turin and and exemplifies the characteristics of a medieval defensive village.

Perched on a rocky spur, probably of Celtic-Ligurian origin, the settlement was taken over by the Romans and later became a Lombard fortification. It is characterised by a high tower made of ashlar stone and a Visconti fortress featuring traditional Ghibelline battlements.

A quintessential medieval defensive village, Castello di Massazza served as a repository for foodstuffs and agricultural products, offering protection for the local livestock and safeguarding the northern village located in the Baraggia region. Celtic altars with votive chapels and remnants from the Templar era, including symbols of the iconic Cross, can still be discovered on its grounds. Within the village, a chapel is devoted to Sant’Antonino and Sant'Anna, boasting an intriguing Romanesque apse and precious 14th-century frescoes.

In the 1200s, it was owned by the Guala family of Casalvolone, and throughout the 14th century by the Visconti family of Milan, who introduced several single-lancet windows typical of Lombard castles (one in particular is considered to be one of the most beautiful examples in the Piedmont region). From the 1400s until the 1800s, it belonged to the Avogadro family.

CASTELLO DI MASSAZZA TODAY

Since 1978, the Castle has been owned by the Cavallari family, who have been diligently restoring this historical residence as their family home. Additionally, they have made some rooms available for events, exhibitions and fairs, equipping them with modern amenities and a spacious kitchen. Furthermore, they have created an arena theatre with exceptional acoustics and a captivating scenic presence.

The Castle of Massazza is a perfect choice for the hosting of private events in a truly charming setting.
