Isola Borghese Cavazza, better known as Isola del Garda, is situated on the western bank of Lake Garda, close to Brescia and just a couple of kilometres across the water from San Felice del Benaco. Terraces and Italian-style landscaped gardens slope right down to the lake, while all around the vegetation is luxuriant and unspoiled, abounding in local and exotic plants, rare species and unique flowers. Today, the island owes much of its charm to the extraordinary Venetian neo-Gothic style Villa, which was designed by architect Luigi Rovelli in the early 1900s. It is an imposing and harmonious building which features a wealth of striking architectural details.

The history of Isola del Garda
Originally home to the Franciscan Friars between 1200 and 1797, the island subsequently passed into the hands of a number of different families, including the well-known Lechi Family of Brescia (1817-1860). In 1870, it was purchased by Duke Gaetano de Ferrari and his wife Maria Annenkoff. The property was to remain in the possession of Anna Maria De Ferrari, wife of the well-known Prince of Sulmona, Scipione Borghese, who duly bequeathed it to his daughter Livia Borghese, who was married to Alessandro Cavazza. The latter’s youngest son, Camillo Cavazza, left the island to his seven children who take care of the island to this day, personally managing the various family businesses and activities.
