Located right in the heart of Casale Monferrato, Palazzo Gozzani Treville represents the most illustrious and original 18th-century building in the whole area. It has been the headquarters of the Philharmonic Academy since 1827, but it is so much more than simply a historical site.

THE HISTORY OF PALAZZO GOZZANI TREVILLE

The palace was designed in the early decades of the 18th century by architect Giovanni Battista Scapitta, positioned on the ancient street of San Paolo. However, construction work was subsequently interrupted by his untimely death and was later resumed by master builder Giacomo Zanetti from Lugano. The building was remodelled in 1781 in the neoclassical style by Ottavio Bertotti Scamozzi from Vicenza. He was the author of the impressive slightly concave façade, designed to follow the street's layout.

The design of the building is grandiose, articulated on three above-ground floors: the ground floor with its ceremonial area surrounding the courtyard of honour, the ‘piano nobile’ first floor overlooking the street and the attic which was formerly designated for servants and storerooms. Upon going through the main entrance, one enters the atrium where exquisitely decorated walls displaying a fine use of perspective make the spaces seem even larger. They are further defined by vaulted ceilings, embellished with delicate Rococo-style stucco work and supported by graceful single or paired columns. The main courtyard serves as a splendid scenic backdrop, with its central entrance and two galleries that are diagonal to the entrance hall, one of which communicates onto the spacious gardens.
