VILLA DA SCHIO AT CASTELGOMBERTO, A VILLA IN THE PALLADIAN STYLE

Villa da Schio, formerly belonging to the Piovene and da Porto families, is located just a few kilometres away from Vicenza. It is surrounded by spacious grounds that display wide avenues of centuries-old trees and ample green spaces. The central body of the Villa is reminiscent of the classic structure of Venetian villas: it has an inner courtyard surrounded by a traditional colonnade with characteristic ‘barchesse’ arcades and a chapel.

The estate was commissioned by the Piovene family in the second half of the 17th century. Building initially began close to the existing national road, but due to the flooding of the nearby Agno River a short distance away, the construction site was relocated to the current position on a higher and safer level. Recent studies have shown that there were initially two distinct bodies of the building, one adjacent to the existing chapel, and the other in the area dedicated to agricultural activities.

The architect responsible for designing the Villa was Antonio Pizzocaro, a follower of the Venetian architect, Andrea Palladio.

During the construction process of the estate, the small Poscola River was deviated in order to avoid it passing through the grounds and thereby spoiling its harmonious appearance.

Following on from the Piovene family, the Villa was inherited by the da Porto family and subsequently by the da Schio family, who are the current owners.

Today, the villa is an exclusive location for private events such as weddings, meetings, special celebrations and receptions, and also offers overnight accommodation.

CIVIL WEDDINGS

Villa da Schio is a perfect setting for weddings in an exclusive historical location. You may also celebrate a legally binding civil wedding ceremony at the Villa.

VISITS

The Villa is open from April to October, with different opening times depending on the season. Visits must be booked in advance and take place exclusively with a guide for groups of at least 15 people. It is possible to visit all the external grounds, the 18th-century park and the Italian-style garden.

GUIDED TOURS

We offer special conditions for schools, universities, cultural and religious institutions and associations. We request that the group consist of a minimum of 15 people and that bookings are made at least 48 hours in advance.
