Villa Ines is a notable example of 19th-century architecture, characterised by a strong influence of Venetian Renaissance style elements, such as the beautiful central Serliana window and the tall rusticated and horizontally banded lower section. The façade, which is rigorously symmetrical, has a slightly projecting central part compared with its side walls.

On the ground floor, the entrance is framed by rusticated ashlar, its upper section flanked by two circular oculi windows. The main front door is surmounted by a tripartite Venetian window at the centre of the ‘piano nobile’ first floor. All the windows in the Villa have single openings, with arched frames made of white stone.

The interior of the Villa follows the layout which is characteristic of many Venetian villas. The ground floor hall, which has four adjoining lateral rooms, is connected to the reception hall and rooms on the ‘piano nobile’ by a light marble staircase embellished with a cast-iron railing with floral motifs. The tempera paintings on the ceilings in the central halls and side rooms are particularly noteworthy and depict decorated panels with floral motifs, perfectly in keeping with the Villa’s intended use as a summer residence. The flooring features either the use of the Venetian ‘terrazzo’ or Palladian style made using medium-sized chips, or wide-planked spruce, as can be seen in the library.

In line with the agricultural use at the time, Villa Ines contains a large wine cellar with two wells and a sloping floor for the collection of wine, as well as a vast granary enabling visitors to admire the sturdy wooden truss structure of the roof. There is an ancient fireplace supported laterally by two Venetian stone brackets in the kitchen located in the historical residence.

THE HISTORY OF VILLA INES

Villa Chilesotti-Benetti, known as Villa Ines, is located along the old suburban road that in previous centuries used to connect the banks of the Brenta River with those of the Piave, between the municipalities of Romano Alto and Pove. The first historical records of the ancient manor house, taken from the archives at Asolo Museum and the parish archive of Romano, date back to 1640.

After various renovations which were carried out in the 1700s by the Zambelli family, the Villa was purchased by Count Giusti towards the end of the 18th century, who had the current Villa built next to the old manor house. Villa Ines is also known as Villa Chilesotti in honour of the renowned musician from Bassono, Oscar Chilesotti, who lived there after the Giusti family and spent the last years of his life at the residence.

After World War I, Villa Ines became the property of the Benetti family.
