Villa Majnoni d'Intignano in Erba
This Historical Residence is located in a setting that cannot fail to make a strong impression on the visitor, commanding as it does a unique panorama over the entire Brianza region from within the Lambro Valley Park. It stands high on a hill above Lake Alserio, from which it enjoys an exclusive view onto the peaks of the Grigna range and Monte Resegone, as well as Lake Pusiano and Lake Annone. The property has land of its own that stretches as far as Lake Alserio, free of any kind of construction, while within its walls there is a wide variety of centuries-old trees that are noteworthy for their towering height, some of them exceeding 30 metres. The grounds also feature a grotto above which royal architect Achille Majnoni d'Intignano had a small temple erected.

The residence is divided into two distinct bodies, one on the right, which was the original construction dating back to the 17th century, and the other on the left, built by Massimiliano Majnoni d'Intignano in the 19th century when he acquired the dwelling. Of special note are the stables that have remained almost intact in the lower part of this building.

The history of Villa Majnoni d'Intignano
The present Villa overlooks the land where the historic battle of Tassera and Carcano took place in which Barbarossa was put to flight in 1160. According to historians, a castle once stood where the villa now stands. According to the Parravicini family archives, it would appear that Guglielmo Parravicini built the 'Castel Nuovo' where the castle once stood and the villa now stands in 1351, as evidenced by several tunnels outside the current building that are of much older construction. In 1570, Giovanni M. Parravicini rebuilt a villa on the ruins of the castle that had recently been destroyed once again. This residence was subsequently inhabited by his direct descendants.

The Villa and land were purchased in 1840 by Massimiliano Majnoni d'Intignano, who completely renovated it and had the park redesigned and cultivated. His cousin Stefano Majnoni, son of Giuseppe Antonio, an officer in the Napoleonic Army who collected many Napoleonic memoirs now preserved in the family archives, was given accommodation at the house. The Villa was then inherited by Luigi Majnoni d'Intignano, who was named General of the Army Corps due to his military achievements (Second Italian War of Independence) and was later appointed Senate of the Kingdom and Minister of War. When he was discharged, he was appointed a Count by King Vittorio Emanuele III for services rendered to his country. Upon his death in 1918, the Cavalry Regiment dedicated a plaque to him in the villa in Castelnuovo. Luigi's brother, Achille Majnoni d'Intignano (Milan 1855 - Erba 1935), was appointed Royal Architect by Umberto I of Savoy and held the same position under Vittorio Emanuele III. In 1918, the villa was inherited by Gerolamo Majnoni d'Intignano, an officer of the General Military Staff, delegate of the Sovereign Order of Malta, councillor of the Museum of the Risorgimento Movement and president of the Milanese branch of the Dante Alighieri Society.

In 1962, the Villa passed into the hands of Giuseppe Majnoni d'Intignano, Commander of the Field Artillery Regiment (otherwise known as “Voloire”), who fought in Yugoslavia and Russia, earning himself two medals for Military Valour and who then took part in the Resistance as Commander of the Puecher Battalion of Erba. Giuseppe died in 2001 and his daughter, Maria Margherita Majnoni d'Intignano, inherited the property.
