VILLA PISANI BONETTI IN BAGNOLO DI LONIGO NEAR VICENZA

Villa Pisani, situated in the hamlet of Bagnolo within the town of Lonigo in the province of Vicenza, is a Venetian Villa which was designed by renowned architect Andrea Palladio in 1542. It was commissioned by the Pisani brothers of Venice. Since 1996, it has held a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List, along with other Palladian villas in the Veneto region. Originally conceived as a country villa, its purpose is evident from the presence of adjacent ‘barchesse’ (barns), and it features a park located behind the main building. The villa's strategic location near the Guà River, overlooking the road that directly connects the hamlet to nearby Spessa, makes it an architectural gem of historical significance.

THE HISTORY OF VILLA PISANI BONETTI

Villa Pisani in Bagnolo di Lonigo, designed by Andrea Palladio starting in 1541 after his first trip to Rome and constructed between 1544 and 1545, marks a significant phase in Palladio's early career. This Villa also marked the beginning of his collaboration with the Venetian Republic. Drawing inspiration from the grandeur of imperial Rome, Villa Pisani symbolised Venice's dominion over the mainland. It served both as a representative estate and a functional residence that oversaw the surrounding agricultural lands. Its strategic location near the riverside provided a direct connection to Venice for the transportation of people and goods. The Villa's main façade was positioned to face the river, while the rear overlooked the working areas of the estate. It features frescoes by Francesco Torbido, a pupil of Giulio Romano.

The Villa is in a perfect state of preservation today, thanks to the tireless work of its previous and current owners. The Villa and park house an International Collection of Contemporary Art. Located within the garden of the Villa is the ‘Barchessa’, originally a rustic outbuilding with wide arcaded porticoes, primarily used for agricultural purposes. This has been carefully restored and completely refurbished and has been tastefully converted into an elegant Art Hotel, containing large event spaces and the Osteria del Guà restaurant.

THE ‘BARCHESSA’

The 'Barchessa' of Villa Pisani has preserved its porticoed architecture with its lofty archways, showcasing the remarkable outcome of an extensive and meticulous restoration project. This country house offers 15 rooms, each uniquely adorned with its own touch of charm and design, ensuring a welcoming and cosy atmosphere. Additionally, it contains spacious halls that are perfect for hosting distinctive and memorable weddings, as well as versatile spaces equipped to accommodate a variety of private events, including meetings, conferences and seminars.

Accommodation for a total of 36 guests.

Number of rooms: 17, including 15 in the Barchessa, 1 in the Villino by the swimming pool and 2 in apartments within the Villa.

Number of reception rooms: 3, with a seating capacity for up to a total of 300 people.
