Villa Santa Maria al Poggio

Villa Santa Maria al Poggio is a villa built on the ruins of an ancient watchtower of the city of Fermo; indeed in the past, Porto San Giorgio was called not only Castel Sangiorgio but also Porto di Fermo.

The first stone was laid approximately between the years 1860 and 1870; it is an ancient villa with a fresh and light charm. The pastel colors of its walls play with the iconic green of the shutters and together they bring peace at first glance and energy immediately after.

It is surrounded by a large park on multiple levels, where you can stroll and admire centuries-old pines and olive trees, get lost among the scents and pure beauty of orange and lemon flowers, and why not, play tennis on the private court. The entrance opens with a flowerbed of small and delicate white roses and a circular water feature, the perfect background to relax and disconnect from everyday life.

The historic residence, in neorenaissance style, develops over four floors, each with its own personality and charm. Internally divided into three naves with walls decorated with frames and stuccoes with geometric motifs, around the main body the wings give the complex the shape of a horseshoe. Inside, among the many rooms, there are a library, a votive chapel, and a large central hall used for meetings and dances.

The lower floor houses a large hall that was used for dances and parties at the time; today it is still possible to organize events of any kind, from chamber music to private parties and celebrations. On the same floor, some particular caves were discovered, consisting of an underground room and three tunnels, which were collapsed for safety reasons and to avoid unexpected incursions. In fact, from the sources it was discovered that these three tunnels were escape routes connecting to other residences of Porto San Giorgio, such as Rocca Tiepolo and even one would have led to Fermo. On the same floor, there is a consecrated votive chapel, a kitchen with a large fireplace, and a billiard room with cross vaults.

The noble floor is made warm and enveloping by the antique parquet floor, a piano, and a marble fireplace from France in vivid red color, adorned with elegant white veins. From the balconies, you can see the sea blending with the azure sky. The library is decorated and enriched by wood paneling and a wooden fireplace, together they make it a quiet and welcoming place, perfect for getting lost in the pages of a good book. An important staircase of Carrara white marble covered with soft red velvet leads to the upper floor, where there are three suites, three jewels ready to welcome you, a large hallway, and a loggia.
