    Piemonte: Discovering the Turin Hill

    Private Residence unveiled

    • Villa Simeom
The Simeom family, an influential lineage rooted in Chieri and its surroundings since the 13th century, resided in this 19th-century villa for generations, preserving crucial artifacts of subalpine history. These treasures are now part of the “Armando Simeom” collection housed in the Historical Archive of the City of Turin.
The current owners, descendants of the Simeom family, maintain a deep connection with the villa. After a stroll through the front gardens, they will welcome us into the 10-meter-high ballroom and introduce us to the ground-floor rooms adorned with artwork and the upper-floor bedrooms featuring original canopy beds. Visitors will also view original architectural drawings and a collection of paintings and charcoal sketches created at the villa in the late 19th century.

    Key Locations

    • Chieri: Explore this historic town and visit the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria della Scala, the largest and most significant Gothic church in the region. Originally built in Romanesque style in 1037 by Bishop Landolfo of Turin, its crypt is a surviving feature from this period. The current structure, a Gothic renovation and expansion undertaken by the Chapter of Canons, the town council, Duke Amadeus VIII, and Chieri’s prominent families, was completed between 1405 and 1436. On the church’s south side are the imposing 14th-century square bell tower and an even older baptistery.
    • Villa Simeom: A villa de loisirs built in the early 19th century, it features a spacious, sunlit ballroom and even an internal functioning drawbridge in a medieval style. The villa is surrounded by over seven hectares of parkland and boasts 600 square meters of original period rooms, typically inaccessible except during private events.
    • Culinary Stops: Enjoy tastings of Freisa di Chieri D.O.C. wine, the famous rubatà breadsticks, and the traditional Chieri dessert, Il galucio d’Cher.
