The Castle of Tor Crescenza is located just a short distance from Via Flaminia in the Corso Francia area on the outskirts of Rome. Completely restored and renovated, the Castello features a façade with two classical side towers bordered by equally crenellated edges, alternating high and low sections.

At its centre, a drawbridge in perfect medieval style provides access to a cloister, guest quarters and magnificent noble halls which lend themselves perfectly to receptions and banquets. The interiors are finely and richly furnished with polished marble floors and slabs, while the rooms also contain glorious ‘trompe-l’oeil’ paintings depicting scenes from the lives of the former owners.

No less impressive is the exterior of the Castle, with its grand avenues leading to gardens abundant in fountains that create captivating water displays as one moves from one basin to another, thanks to their linear and perfect geometry.

The history of Castello di Tor Crescenza
Castello di Tor Crescenza was built in the 15th century by Marquis Francesco Crescenzi. It was initially constructed as a tower only, created in the 1100s to protect the city from enemy attacks. It was subsequently expanded during medieval times when the Crescenza family took possession of both the tower and the surrounding territory.

The complex is named after its founders, becoming henceforth known as the “Castello della Crescenza”. Literary sources have revealed that a large number of artists plied their trade here, particularly disciples of 16th-century painter, Giulio Romano and members of the Zuccari artistic movement.

What has now become a location for exclusive events has long been an inspiration for painters, not only from Italy but also from abroad, including the illustrious Claude Lorrain, Nicolas Poussin and Jean Baptiste Corot.
