Palazzo Borio is a small elegant eighteenth-century residence of particular cultural importance. The residence consists of two buildings and an internal courtyard.
Worthy of mention are: the neoclassical staircase; the neo-Gothic corridor on the first floor; and the Pink Room, a fine example of Lombard Rococo, with walls frescoed in fake pink silk damask and with the ceiling bearing, again frescoed, four medallions, one on each side of the room, the two on the short sides reproducing the figures of ‘ Turks’, those on the longer sides of the sylvan landscapes.
The history of Palazzo Borio
Having belonged to the noble Corniani family until the mid-18th century, the palace was purchased, towards the end of the 19th century, by the nobleman Giacomo Borio di Tigliole, mayor of Orzinuovi, whose family, coming from Piedmont, had taken up residence for some time in the city.
It was the son of the latter, Gaetano Borio di Tigliole, who arranged, in 1926, on the occasion of his wedding with the noble Ercolina Maffeis, to have the dome of the staircase and the corridor on the ground floor frescoed by a well-known local artist, Mario Manera.
