Tenuta del Castello is located in the Municipality of Montegiordano, in the province of Cosenza. The agricultural estate boasts a spectacular natural setting, nestled between the blue Ionian Sea and the vibrant colours of the fertile hills covered with pine trees and Mediterranean scrub.
The Castello dei Principi Pignone del Carretto stands in an area rich in ancient settlements, according to tradition also frequented by the philosopher Pythagoras in the Magna Greek era. It was built in the 17th century on the ruins of the Monastery of St. Ananias, which was destroyed by the Saracens around 1150. Inhabited until the late 1940s, the Castle has long been the centre of agricultural activities in the region, housing the farmers and their families who came from the village to work the land, and continues to dominate the estate and all the surrounding countryside.
The winery
Tenuta del Castello’s winery is located in the heart of the vineyards, just a short distance from the Castle. It is a large facility, equipped with the latest technology for wine-making and bottling. Innovation blended with the most authentic traditional craftsmanship results in a top quality wine, a product of intense labour and a true expression of its terroir.
Wine production
The primary focus of Tenuta del Castello is the meticulous care of its 12 hectares of vineyards, which is developed around a large winery, outfitted with all the most modern equipment, while still honouring ancient traditions. The result is a refined and high-quality wine, developed in collaboration with oenologist Riccardo Cotarella, President of the Association of Enologists.
Tenuta del Castello wines are distinguished by their balanced sugar and alcohol content and their stable acidity, which preserve and enhance their aromatic profiles over time.
