Villa Giovanelli – Fogaccia was built at the beginning of the 20th century by Marcello Piacentini, one of the greatest Italian architects and urban planners. His numerous creations in Rome include: the Rector’s Palace of the “La Sapienza” University, Villa Nobili, the Palazzo delle Corporazioni (today’s headquarters of the Ministry of Economic Development), Via della Conciliazione…

Inaugurated on April 1st 1938 by King Vittorio Emanuele III, the Villa has hosted various illustrious people over time including Benito Mussolini, Piero Badoglio, Marquis Rodolfo Graziani, Cardinals Fumasoni Biondi, Marchetti Selvaggiani and Micara.

The Villa, the Roman residence of the Giovanelli Princes, emerged unscathed from the Second World War. The presence of the relic of the Holy Cross is credited with having protected the property.
