Villa Troubetskoy

A historical residence dating back to the 17th century in the midst of the Veneto countryside, the unique history of Villa Troubetskoy, which was formerly owned by descendants of Tsar Nicholas I, is reflected in its period furnishings and authentic decorations.

The history of Villa Troubetskoy

Villa Troubetskoy is a minor Venetian Villa from the 18th century, first built along the Zero Canal in order to allow its guests to reach Venice by water. In the 1960s, the canal was moved about 200 metres, thus expanding the park at the same time.

At the end of the 19th century, the Villa was purchased by the noble Russian Troubetskoy family for the residence of two of the Troubetskoy girls, who were, in fact, both illegitimate daughters of the Tsar and who had effectively been exiled in Italy. One of the two girls went on to marry the Duke of Morny, becoming one of the leading and most alluring noblewomen of the Belle Époque period in Paris, while the other sister married a Franco-Russian count.

The following generation also consisted of two sisters, one of whom was a close friend of fighter pilot Francesco Baracca, who spent his last night at the Villa before being shot the next day. This generation not only had no descendants but also slowly sold off the lands surrounding the estate.

In the 1950s, Count Alberto del Bono, whose family had been friends with the Troubetskoy family since the beginning of the century, assisted Countess Eleonor Ennes, who, upon her death, subsequently left the Villa to the del Bono family.
