Castello delle Quattro Torri

Region: Piemonte e Valle d'Aosta

Contact the abode

The Castle is located in Arignano, about 25 km from Torino. it is a little-known castle AS it is located in a secluded position of the village and not visible to those who do not know where it is, while it is easy to see it if you take the road that leads from the hamlet of Tetti Chiaffredo to the center.

It is the only Renaissance-style castle in Piedmont and perhaps in the whole of Northern Italy that has never been transformed by subsequent additions.

There is no precise information on the period of its construction, but it is very likely that it was commissioned by Ludovico Costa degli Albussani following the destruction of the nearby Rocca in 1396, whose renovation was too expensive, so it was decided to build it no longer for military but for residential construction.

Its construction was carried out between 1407 and 1430 but only on three sides. The fourth, the eastern one, was built after 1576.

It is still surrounded by a large park surrounded by a nineteenth-century brick wall, although the precious ornamental plants that populated it have been sold or cut down over the years by the various owners.

The subdivisions of the properties of the Costa family during the twentieth century led to the construction of a dividing wall between the castle and the other Costa properties, including the stables, the ancient fortress and the Villa Bianca.

After being sold by the Costa family to various owners and used for years for the most disparate activities (including, alas, a galvanizing that almost completely destroyed the interiors and ruined some portions of the exterior), the Quattro Torri Castle was purchased around 1980 by current owner’s family and through a long and careful restoration it was brought back to its former glory.
