CASTELLO DI TABIANO IN SALSOMAGGIORE TERME

With its dominant position set on a rocky promontory, Tabiano Castle is one of the most imposing feudal fortresses still in existence in Upper Emilia. It was built in the 11th century on a Roman settlement that guarded the Via Francigena and the salt wells of Salsomaggiore Terme. Looking out over its walls today, it is possible to admire the impressive panorama that sweeps right over the Po Valley and as far as the Alps. The protective external walls enclose spectacular circular bastions, a watchtower and a bridge, while the lower ancient mediaeval hamlet below has been transformed into a magnificent ‘Relais de Charme’ with hotel accommodation and two wellness centres. The Castle is surrounded on all sides by an agricultural estate with ancient farmhouses now redesigned as beautiful holiday villas.

The Antico Borgo del Castello has also been fully restructured to strengthen and enhance the important remains of the fortification. Converted into a Relais de Charme, with a total of 60 suites and apartments, seven meeting rooms, one of which can accommodate up to 400 people, swimming pools, wellness centres with a natural grotto, an orchard, a vegetable and herb garden, plus two restaurants, one of which is located in what used to be the Old Dairy.

This charming complex is located in the heart of an area perfect for top quality cultural tourism, offering fortresses, parish churches, monasteries, villages, museums, spas, royal palaces, places Verdi used to frequent, as well as nearby Parma, nominated by UNESCO as a creative city for gastronomy, with its spectacular cathedral, baptistery, Regio and Farnese theatres, and also for being the home of the Academia Barilla food company. Renowned for its excellence in food (Parmesan cheese, cured meats, pasta, to name but a few...), this region is now also famous for well-being centres, thanks to the renovation of the spas at Tabiano and Salsomaggiore. Fidenza Village, Europe's largest shopping outlet store, is 20 minutes away, while sports enthusiasts can enjoy the many green areas and go horseback riding or mountain biking.

THE RELAIS DE CHARME AND THE RESTAURANT
The hamlet lying at the foot of the castle has been converted into a ‘Relais de Charme’ complex offering kind of comfort and amenity: you will find a swimming pool, gardens, panoramic terraces and the spa centres. The restaurant housed in the former cheese factory offers traditional and contemporary menus using fruit and vegetables grown in the private garden, with home-made pasta and pastries as well as locally produced oil, vinegar and Nocino liqueur.

ACCOMMODATION AND SPECIAL EVENTS

The castle, hamlet and farmhouses offer accommodation with a variety of features and sizes, both indoor and outdoor: the Castle can host events for up to 250 seated persons (the adjacent church seats 200). The ancient hamlet has 43 rooms and suites, two restaurants, a swimming pool and spa, and a meeting and events room for 400 people. The four farmhouses with swimming pools each have 10 to 18 beds.
