PALAZZO PEPOLI CAMPOGRANDE AND ‘CAMPOGRANDE CONCEPT’

After renovating the aristocratic ‘piano nobile’ floor of Palazzo Pepoli Campogrande, Stefano Campogrande founded Campogrande Concept together with his wife, Daniela Scognamillo, in early 2013.

At the outset, the mission of Campogrande Concept was to valorise a formers senator’s historical residence from the second half of the 17th century, featuring a unique hall of mirrors in Bologna, by opening it to the public and to discerning tourists. Contemporary art exhibitions were organised in collaboration with prominent curators and art galleries, as well as exhibitions of design projects, fashion shows and Food Experiences, transforming the Palazzo into a sort of cultural salon of excellence, proposing personalised proposals and projects in a unique setting.

THE HISTORY OF PALAZZO PEPOLI CAMPOGRANDE

Baroque-style Palazzo Pepoli Campogrande, also known as Palazzo Pepoli Nuovo, is located at number 7, Via Castiglione in the very centre of Bologna. Across the street stands the medieval Palazzo Pepoli Vecchio, which now houses the Museum of the History of Bologna. The Palazzo was built in the mid-1600s to a design by Francesco Albertoni and Giuseppe Antonio Torri and was commissioned by Count Odoardo Pepoli, a member of the aristocratic Pepoli family.

In the 1970s, part of the ‘piano nobile’ floor was donated to the city to create a museum housing the Zambeccari picture collection or ‘Quadreria Zambeccari’ of the ‘Pinacoteca Nazionale’ National Gallery. The entrance features a monumental staircase leading to the ‘piano nobile’ with frescoed halls. The ceiling of the staircase displays two ovals framed by stuccoes and painted in 1665 by Domenico Maria Canuti, depicting the appointment of Taddeo Pepoli as Lord (and Senator) of Bologna and his confirmation as the Apostolic Vicar of the Pope.
