Contact the abode

Palazzo Sorbello, located in the historic center of the city of Perugia, a few steps from the Cathedral and the Etruscan Well, is an ancient palazzo dating back to the 17th century that houses a precious collection of paintings, porcelain, printed works, manuscripts and embroidered fabrics.

The noble residence of the Bourbon Marquises of Sorbello welcomes visitors into rooms with frescoed vaults among elegant furnishings and eighteenth-century chandeliers, offering a picturesque view of Perugia and the valley of Assisi.

Palazzo Sorbello is an ideal location for weddings and private events in a historical setting in the heart of the city of Perugia.

THE HISTORY OF PALAZZO SORBELLO

Palazzo Bourbon di Sorbello, dating back to the 16th century, belonged over time to various noble families of Perugia until 1780, when it was acquired by the Bourbon Marquises of Sorbello.

At the entrance to the Palazzo, there is an extraordinary example of external wooden flooring, a rarity in Italy and particularly unique in Umbria, that is particularly worthy of note. This special type of flooring served the purpose of muffling the noise produced by carriages as they entered the building.

At the top of the grand staircase, one enters the ‘piano nobile’ noble floor of the Marquis's residence. Rooms with frescoed vaults, embellished with 18th-century furnishings and chandeliers, house a rich collection of fine Ginori porcelain from the 18th century, period paintings, prints and the historic library of the Ranieri di Sorbello family. One of the rooms is dedicated to the display of embroidered fabrics created by the Ranieri di Sorbello Embroidery School, founded by Marquise Romeyne Robert in 1904 at the family's Villa del Pischiello on Lake Trasimeno.

During various periods of the year, temporary exhibitions related to the history and collections of the Bourbon Marquises of Sorbello are set up as part of the visitors’ itinerary, who are welcomed into an elegant reception room with a frescoed vaulted ceiling, equipped with videos and display cases, and a large panoramic terrace offering stunning views of the city of Perugia and the surrounding hills.
