Built in the second half of the 19th century by Count Ignazio Testasecca, a wealthy mining entrepreneur, the Villa is unique in the province of Caltanissetta and is one of its kind for its singular grandeur and charm.

The layout and distribution of the interiors follow the typical design of the residences of Sicilian aristocratic residences from the 18th century.

The Villa spans three floors and features an approximately square floor plan.

The main entrance is located on the northern side, while a wide and dramatic staircase on the southern side leads to the lower terraces of the garden. The lush grounds surround the Villa on all four sides, enveloping it with abundant vegetation and paths rich in artistic elements.

The exterior elevations are characterised by the contrast between the Pompeian red plaster of the flat surfaces and the giant white decorative pilasters. The entrance portal, flanked by free-standing columns, supports the balcony of the grand hall.

All the interior spaces of the Villa have been carefully restored while preserving the original architecture and have been furnished with taste and great artistry.

THE HISTORY OF VILLA TESTASECCA

Villa Testasecca was erected in the second half of the 19th century, along the carriage road connecting Caltanissetta with San Cataldo.

The commissioner of this work was Commendatore Ignazio Testasecca, a wealthy mining entrepreneur, who was later appointed a Count by the King of Italy for his philanthropic merits, having financed and contributed to the construction of the Ricovero di Mendicità (or ‘Shelter for the Poor’) in the city of Caltanissetta.

Villa Testasecca was sold by the heirs of Count Testasecca in 1972 and since then has been owned by the Benza family, who have overseen its renovation and furnishings over the years with dedication and passion.
