In the vicinity, you can explore the beauty, flavours and enchantment of some of the most captivating locations in Umbria, including Spoleto, Foligno, Norcia, Cascia, Spello, Montefalco, Bevagna and the Monti Sibillini Natural Park.

Every suite at the Relais is unique. All have been converted from ancient dwellings and are furnished with an elegant and welcoming style, featuring antique objects and Umbrian fabrics in warm colours, with views of the surrounding hills. Spread over one or two levels, they consist of one, two or three bedrooms, each with one or two bathrooms and a comfortable lounge. With their exposed wooden beams and parquet and/or terracotta floors, the suites are ideal accommodation for guests seeking to spend their holidays in the heart of the enchanting Umbrian landscape.

The history of Castello di Postignano
The Castle was founded between the 9th and 10th centuries along an important road that connected Spoleto, Foligno, Norcia and Assisi. It has a triangular shape, with a watchtower at the top and remnants of the walls that surrounded the houses built on the slope of a hill.

Postignano was hotly contested by Foligno and Spoleto and took part in the wars between the Guelphs and Ghibellines. The village had a flourishing economy particularly in the period between the 14th and 15th centuries, based on agriculture, forestry activities, iron craftsmanship and hemp processing.

From the 16th century onwards, its population began to dwindle, and a great many inhabitants of the village emigrated during the 20th century. In 1963, following a minor land subsidence, the remaining families were evacuated. The abandonment led to the deterioration of the hamlet’s structures, many of which had already become unsafe at the time of the 1997 earthquake.

In 2004, the village was listed as a monument of historical and artistic interest by the Ministry of Culture. In 2007, the Mirto company, later merged with Caronte, began the restoration of the buildings and their frescoes, with the contribution of the Umbria Region and the support of the municipal administration of Sellano.

Conveniently located in the heart of the Valnerina valley, it is a marvellous starting point for exploring the artistic and natural beauties of Umbria, as well as for activities such as trekking, horseback riding, cycling, rafting, paragliding and following famous gastronomic itineraries.

The Borgo is a perfect venue for work or study groups, team building sessions, master classes, meetings and conferences lasting one or more days.

Since 2012, the Borgo has been hosting “Un Castello all’Orizzonte” (A Castle on the Horizon) between May and October, a programme of events, exhibitions, musical concerts, conferences and theatre performances featuring renowned Italian and international artists.

Visiting Castello di Postignano
Visits are free of charge. Borgo Castello di Postignano can be visited all year round, although reception services are limited to certain hours of the day during the winter months. The best time to visit is from the week before Easter to the beginning of November when all services are fully operational, and photographic exhibitions and cultural events are taking place.
