At the entrance of Terricciola stands Villa Gherardi Del Testa Barasaglia, the country residence of the noble family from Pisa, built in 1660 by Friar Sebastiano Gherardi, as the inscription on the façade testifies. It was here that Tommaso Gherardi Del Testa was born in 1814, a patriot of the Risorgimento and a celebrated playwright of his time.
Visitors entering the Villa can admire the beautiful frescoes on the ‘piano nobile’ first floor, as well as the stuccos, antique furniture and trompe-l’œil architecture.
The small family chapel, surrounded by a 19th-century terraced garden, is not open to the public. Still inhabited by the Gherardi Del Testa family, the Villa originally featured a staircase with two entrances made of marble on the façade, and the garden also extended to the front of the building.
